Tuesday, October 20, 2015 @ 8:30 am - 4:00 pm

NOTICE: The trainer for this session fell ill, and we were unable to find another available trainer for this date. We apologize for the inconvenience, and plan to reschedule this event soon. Please keep an eye on our events page for news and updates.

Bridges out of Poverty training looks at the misconceptions that most people from middle income harbor about poverty and examines what is really happening in poverty in the United States. During the workshop, discussion will be held on the hidden rules of class and culture, and driving forces in various economic groups. Participants will work together to create their own mental model of poverty and compare it to a mental model created by people who live in poverty in southwestern PA. There will also be discussion on language barriers between economic middle income and low income people, the effects of stress when living in poverty, and a look will be taken at the number of students in various local school districts who live in poverty.

This workshop is designed for any professionals, including law enforcement and health care, plus and any community members who are interested.
